An auction grade is one piece of a Japanese import's history. Check the original record if available, the specific car's condition and registration status, and consider an independent inspection.

01
Start with the individual car
Ask which auction sheet, condition report and service records are available for the stock number. Grade systems and notes vary, and a headline grade is not a complete mechanical assessment.
02
Check its New Zealand status
Ask whether the vehicle has completed entry certification and registration, and what steps remain before collection. Confirm the advertised price, ORC and any preparation in writing.
03
Inspect before deciding
Walk around the car, try the equipment and compare the records with what you see. Consumer Protection recommends a mechanic or vehicle inspection service for a used car. Ask for an independent inspection if you need more confidence.
Exterior, tyres and underbody.
Interior, safety features and both keys where available.
Service history, odometer and any recorded auction comments.
